Last weekend we spent Labor Day weekend in St. Simons Island. The forecast was predicting hurricane Dorian to slide up the east coast that weekend, but since there had been no evacuation orders, we took our chances and packed up heading to the island. This time, we stayed in a BRAND new house close to the Village and it was so nice. We walked everywhere for meals, and the beach was just a short drive and park away. It did rain quite a bit while we were there, but we did end up getting several hours of good beach time Saturday and Sunday. When we left the island Monday, all was quiet, but soon after they called for mandatory evacuations due to the course Dorian was trying to take. It was the never ending hurricane that stayed parked over the Bahamas so long, I'm not sure the meteorologists had any clue what it was actually going to do. (It ended up skimming the coast and causing some very HIGH high tide, but I think most of SSI was unscathed.)
Prior to heading to the beach, the kids had homecoming week at school and I managed to remember to take pictures a couple of the mornings of their dress up choices.
This past weekend, we went to Tifton to celebrate my dad (Papa's) birthday since we were at SSI on his actual birthday (September 1st) and missed celebrating with him. Other than that, it has been an easy going weekend. I due feel the barometric pressure of activity changing though, and I am trying to mentally prepare myself for the onslaught of activity ahead.

This was Tacky Tuesday/Beauty School drop out dress up day. I thought they did pretty good coming up with their outfits. Mack wasn't crazy about wearing his church "sporty coat" to school, but the girls and I convinced him that it made his outfit. |
I took individual shots in car line because I'm on top of things like that. |
This boy LOVES a mohawk. |
Ellie is cheesing too hard in this picture to see her self applied crazy makeup. She had pink lipstick on the bottom lip and red on the top. She also did some thick eyeliner with a purple eyeshadow. |
Another carline picture. Rockstar day. The girls were channelling Taylor Swift, while Mack was more of a modern country singer or Bruce Springsteen type with jeans and a t-shirt. They all wore shades. |
That week was G week at school and Mack took his guitar for show and tell. His teacher sent this picture to me and said that he was SO excited to show the class how to "play" the guitar. Mohawk and all. |
Our cute little house in the village. We were literally the 2nd people to stay in it. It was an old cottage they completely gutted and remodeled. It was so spacious and had everything we needed. |
The hurricane was still in the Bahamas but the clouds were definitely ominous over the pier the first night we were there. It was beautiful. |
We made it to the beach Saturday and everyone assumed their positions |
Mack LOVES throwing the whistle football with Worth. |
There was some great sand castle building until our cheap shovel broke. |
That night we were hanging out on the front porch people watching before dinner and the UGA game. We were making the kids say "Go Dawgs!" to passersby. |
The tide was CRAZY high Sunday after a big rain storm when we finally made it out to the beach. |
Another high tide picture looking down the beach toward the pier. |
Tide picture looking toward East Beach/Sea Island. The waves were also some of the biggest I've ever seen at SSI. |
No wind or drizzling rain would stop MackMan |
Ellie in character. |
The wind was just right for all kinds of towel flying. |
This was great entertainment for an hour or so for them. |
Emma in her beach version of a head scarf. |
Sweet Papa ready to celebrate his 71st birthday with us in Tifton. |
