Our Blog

This blog spot is primarily a photo/memory album for our family. It also serves as a way for us to share what is going on in our lives with our friends and family that don't see us on a regular basis. Ashley, Worth, Ellie, Emma, and Mack

Coach Pitch, Camels, Donkeys, and Field Day

This week we are in full swing with Mack playing coach pitch baseball. His team is getting better, and would be good if they can just figure out which base to run to.

We attended "The Promise" at our church this past Wednesday night. The girls have been in it for the last 2 years, but this year they decided to sit it out and just be an audience member. The play was changed up a little bit this year, and I'm still deciding if it was for the better at this point. One big change that went over well with all that came to the play, was a live nativity on the lawn of the church. There were actual, live lambs, goats, a donkey, and a camel! The kids LOVED it!

Friday was field day for Ellie and Emma and other than Christmas, is their absolute favorite event of the year. I went for a few hours in the morning and enjoyed watching them compete. I was standing with Ellie's class between events, and I noticed several of the boys coming up to ask Ellie to race them. I was like, "why do they want to race my skinny, white daughter?" Well, her teacher later informed me that Ellie has been racing and beating all of the boys on the playground.  It's killing them. She said they race her daily and have yet to win. I thought it was comical. Maybe Ellie has a future on a track team somewhere? Emma was precious and having so much fun. This was the first year since Ellie was in Kindergarten that they haven't had rain at field day. It was gorgeous outside and couldn't have been a more perfect day.

I finally caught a quick video of Mack hitting the ball:

Mack did not hesitate jumping in on the live nativity. He went straight for the donkey,

The camel was a little scary, mainly because he peed for about 5 minutes, and it was ALOT  of urine on the ground behind him.
Emma was not a fan of the animals. I had to beg her to pose for this shot with the camel WAY in the background.

The baby goats captivated Mack.

In this picture, Ellie was asking for a baby lamb of her own.
Emma's class was my first stop upon entering field day zone.

This game was called hungry hippo and was a little dangerous in my opinion.

Water games are a hit with the hot kids.

Tug of War is always my favorite to watch. I used to love it as a kid.

I just feel sorry for the PE teachers who had to blow up well over 1000 balloons for this station.

4 person tug of war. Ellie won this twice. Not sure how she beat those bigger kids, but she did it.

Water balloon toss.

More water competitions

In her defense, the sponge had been held by TONS of kids. I'm sure it was super gross.
Emma rocked the limbo.

After I picked Mack up from school following my field day adventure. I had to run to Sams. I didn't realize that he had worn this tie all day - to school, Sams, and Walmart.

Kindergarten and Coach Pitch ready!

The past 2 weeks have been exciting ones for Mack. Last week, he got to bring the class stuffed frog home for the week and I got to journal about his time at our house. It was kind of sad, because that frog (or other versions of it) has visited our house at least 7 times over the last 6 years. Also last week, I registered Mack for KINDERGARTEN! I'd like to say that it's hard to believe he's old enough for kindergarten, but he is 5 and 1/2 and I have no doubts that he is ready now despite us holding him back in 2 year old preschool.

This week, Mack played his first coach pitch baseball game. They lost 14-7 but it was so fun to watch. Mack's team is the youngest in the league and they really don't know what they are doing yet. Mack was not bothered by the loss. The league he is playing in is new, and they don't have the kinks quite worked out. Our game last Thursday lasted way longer than the attention span of about 30 5-6 year olds could handle.

Flip Flop the frog got to spend the week with us 2 weeks ago. Mack went through his journal looking at all the other kids' entries and pictures everyday.

Mack is a big boy now! Officially registered for big school! Westside Elementary, watch out, there is a tornado headed your way!

The leprechaun visited our house on St. Patrick's Day and left a little green surprise in the toilet. Mack was most excited about this and wanted to make sure I got a picture of Flip Flop looking at the leprechaun pee to go in the journal.
All dressed up for baseball, but he wouldn't stop talking long enough for me to get his picture.

If you can see the kid on the right holding his crotch, that would be my child.

Mack played his friend Cooper. They are big buddies.

Mack made a list of all of our names. He also added me on the list to the right calling that one the "good list." I'm the only one on it. This year in preschool has made a huge difference in his writing. He could barely write the M for Mack last year, now he's writing all of our names with punctuation!

Worth was on call this weekend, so the kids and I went to Tifton for lunch after church this morning. We got a surprise to find out that the Athens Tifts were stopping through as well from their weekend track meet in Tallahassee. We got to squish on sweet Hardy for a couple of hours, and it was fabulous. Ellie and Emma gave him enough kisses to last him a while.

Bowers Super Kids Week

This week was very exciting. Ellie presented at a coding exhibition at her school, Emma's team won the basketball silver championship tournament, and Mack, well, he's just being Mack.

Ellie's gifted/talented class (Discoveries) hosted a coding exhibition for parents to attend to see projects the kids had created using code. Ellie opened the program and did such a good job speaking in front of all the parents. I had no idea that was going to happen, so I didn't get the full video, but whipped out my phone as quickly as I could. She was also team leader for the robot they created. She did such a good job. I get so exasperated with her at home most days. I put her in bed at night, and I beat myself up for how I responded to her intensity that day. What I ignored, what I let get to me, what I overreacted to, ALWAYS makes me feel like I'm terrible at being her mother, until I see her in her element like this. She loves a spotlight and relishes in it. She loves coding and is so incredibly smart that I sometimes have to remind myself that she is only 10. I am ALWAYS so thankful for her, and proud to be her mom even if I'm not having my most proud moments attempting to parent her. I've got pretty awesome kids despite my insecurities.

Emma's team played for the silver bracket championship Friday night, and they won! They all played their hearts out and it paid off. We were finally able to get some shots up and play amazing defense. Emma doesn't like to lose and I love that about her. She was the shortest girl on the team this year, but by far, the most fierce.

The weather has been so nice this weekend that the kids decided to go for a swim. The pool is still freezing, but that didn't seem to bother them much yesterday. I can't believe how quickly we are approaching another summer!

Ellie, starting off the show at the coding exhibition

Ellie got to introduce a previous Dawg, Joshua Clements, who visited the exhibition to discuss coding with the kids. Worth quickly told Ellie that he had gotten kicked off the UGA team. He currently plays for the Washington Redskins.

Ellie's team coded a robot that would over the ocean floor picking up trash that may harm sea life. The robot had special detectors that could distinguish trash from sea animals. This is the beginning of the presentation. I had to quit filming because a crowd of people were trying to pass by.

The group explaining their prototype to parents walking by.

Ellie and her team.

Team Westside - Silver Champs!

This was one PROUD little basketball player.

Westside is the best side!

Final score

Saturday was pool time.

Mack wasn't so sure at first. It was COLD!

Ellie and Emma wanted to christen their new float for 2019.

March - coming in like a lion!

This week we had basketball playoffs, glow festivals, Dr. Seuss week, school picture days, and plenty of tired children. It's been a fun week though, and I think the kids are finally coming down from their weekend sugar highs.

Mack looking dapper before his school pictures. This was taken before I brushed his hair.

The kids had dentist appointments this week. Mack is the only child of the 3 that requires sunglasses because the dentist's light is "too bright."

It was Dr. Seuss week last week, and this is the only dress up picture I got out of all 3 of them. Mack wanted a mohawk for Thing 1/Thing 2 Crazy Hair day. He gave me specific instructions on how to do it correctly bringing me all of the girls' hair gels and sprays. I did my best, even though he told me it wasn't as good as the one Mia did for him.

Friday night was the Glow Festival at school Due to severe weather in the fall, our fall festival was cancelled and therefore we combined it with our annual spring Glow Run and made the Glow Festival, which in turn had to be moved indoors due to thunderstorms Friday night. The kids had a blast eating doughnuts, pizza, popcorn with dummies and marshmallows, and 700 pieces of candy a piece.

The doughnut on a sting booth was hilarious to me.

This was honestly the only booth I took the most pictures. We took my friend's child to the festival with us and I was just trying to keep up with 4 kids in the crowded halls.

Emma was a hit with he putting game.

Ellie could have hula hooped all day long.
Saturday morning was Ellie's playoff game. They lost which made them runners up in the league.  I was so proud at how well Ellie played and how much she had improved in the season. The entire team left their hearts on that court, and missed the win by 1 point. They were devastated, but recovered enough to pose for this picture.
